The Results Are In

Greg had his second sleep study last Monday night. He got to have a full nights sleep away from home and said he hasn't breathed easier in his life. He was there testing a cpap machine to see if it reduces his severe sleep apnea. In just a short time he will have his very own machine to use at home and I am excited about it. I am looking forward to snoring free nights.
Today Naomi and I went to Kosair Children's Hospital for her to have her brain stem auditory response (ABR) test done. She past with flying colors and has no hearing loss at this time. Because of her special needs diagnosis and her high risk for hearing loss she will have this test done every 6 months for several years to monitor her hearing. We go back in 3 months for a sound booth test and then the regular 6 month schedule. I believe we are going to get to know the folks in audiology very well.
Naomi is a trouper. She was not allowed anything by mount after 6am except clear liquids. She has some white grape juice at 9:30am and then wasn't allowed anything until her test at 1pm. She did so well and was only a very little bit fussy right before they sedated her. She was lights out after 5 minutes of taking the medication and stayed that way throughout the test. They woke her up and gave her sugar water, which she guzzled and then we were free to go home. She is asleep again now and I hope she sleeps through the night tonight.
UPDATE: Last night she slept for 6 straight hours - yay!

Desperation has now overcome us!

I am going to keep this blog short because I am so tired. My hope is that many people will respond with comments to help us.
When Naomi came home she was waking up several times a night to take a bottle. She is no longer feeding at night, but the situation is far worst in my sleep deprived mind. She now sleeps for 30 minute intervals and wakes up crying. She will not stop crying unless Greg or I are with her at all times. I have resorted to sleeping in the same bed with her in the hopes that she will know that I am there and not wake up. This has been to no avail. She still wakes every 30 - 45 minutes crying. Consequently no-one is sleeping and everyone is crabby. I thing undeservedly, Josiah is getting the brunt of every ones crabbiness. I especially cannot function on this level of sleep and need a solution fast. I would appreciate both the adoptive mom's perspective and the perspective of birth moms. Please HELP!

A Lazy Day

On Saturday we decided to have a lazy day. We were all exhausted from the week so we lay around all morning. Greg and Josiah played games on the Wii and we all stayed in our PJ's until at least 11am. After lunch, since Josiah was having such a good listening day, we decided to have a special treat after lunch. We had a camp out in our living room.

Too Tired

This morning I was drying my hair after taking a shower. Naomi does not particularly like it when I am not completely focused on her so she was fussing quite a bit. I am not one of those Moms that feel that I should hold my children all the time or even every time they cry. I am also no the kind of Mom that can make it through the day without a shower for the sake of my children's happiness. So, I took a shower and she fussed. She got so tired of fussing that one minute I heard her and the next minute this is what I saw..... She must have been been very tired because she very seldom falls asleep on her stomach.

Spring Break

This week is Spring Break for Josiah. I have to admit I was a little nervous having both kids at home all day. Yesterday we went to the Zoo with Miss Amy, Nate, Anna, Emory and Audrey (and I am afraid of taking 2 kids out). It was really busy and we only stayed a couple of hours, but it was enough to wear us all out. The weather was in the 70's and beautiful. Josiah played outside for most of the day. Naomi's schedule was completely thrown off and she was not a happy camper by the time Daddy came home. Sorry I haven't taken any pictures this week.
Today Grandma came over for our weekly card making morning. She got 5 cards made and I got 2 made. I am surprised that I got that much done with keeping Josiah busy coloring and stamping and taking care of Naomi when she wasn't asleep. The day was pretty much uneventful until Josiah came up from the basement, while he and Daddy were playing down there, and said, "You know, Mommy there's the strangest thing in the basement! It's a real snake!" Yes it is true we had a real snake in the basement. Of course I told Greg to wait let me get the camera, but he wouldn't have anything to do with that. He took it outside and released it in my backyard of all places. I thought it would be a good idea to put it in the neighbors yard.

A Night without Daddy

Yesterday was a crazy day of Dr appointments. In the morning I had a CT scan done of my kidneys while grandma watched Naomi for me. I got home just in time to get Josiah from school, eat lunch and then take Naomi to the allergist. She is such a trooper. She was tested for all the most common food allergies, all the additional foods she has already started on and for dust mites. 24 Scratches on the back later and low and behold she is not allergic to anything. This is good. The allergist thinks that she has eczema and has put her on a steriod cream and Zyrtec for the itching. Last night was much better as far as her comfort level. Today she has had no rash, so perhaps the allergist really does know what he is talking about. She is going to be on this regime of creams and medicine until she doesn't have any outbreaks again. He said it could be 2 years from now that she grows outof it. She is also not allowed to use any of the traditional baby lotions. We can only use creams on the approved list like eucerin and aquafor. Oh! Crisco is on the approved list too! I guess I will just have to accept the fact that my baby is not going to smell like a baby.
If that was not enough for the day. Greg spent the night at the sleep clinic. He had a sleep study to see what is causing his snoring. His snoring doesn't bother him at all, but it keeps me awake a lot. Hopefully we will know something soon. I can't believe that the night went as well as it did without Daddy being there to help out. I had to put both kids to bed without help and we are all doing great. It is true - it does get better with time. Naomi was only up twice during the night and slept until 5am instead of 4am. That was good for me. Josiah also only got up once, which is a record for him. All in all we had a good day. Thanks grandma for all your help.

A Ham for the Cam

So Naomi absolutely loves the camera. She can be really upset and fussy and all you have to do is bring the camera out. She really hams it up. Enjoy some of pictures of her.
